What it is

Enlarged breasts, macromastia, can cause a wide array of problems such as back pain and discomfort to patients. Breast Reduction surgery, also referred to as Reduction Mammoplasty, can help correct this issues. Excess fat and tissue are removed through strategically placed incisions around the areola and under the breast. Nipple correction and reduction can also be performed at the same time.

Breast Reduction surgery is performed to:

  • Reduce the size of the breasts

  • Reduce the weight of the breasts

  • Restore or correct symmetry of the breasts

Options

Breast Reduction surgery is often performed alone. It can, however, be coupled with Liposuction for a more dramatic result.

Approximate duration of surgery:

2 to 3 hours

Anesthesia

Breast Reduction surgery is normally performed under general anesthesia.

Post-Op Care

Breast Reduction surgery is a day surgery. You can therefore return home the night of your surgery and for the remainder of your recovery. Dr Rizis will see you within the first 5 to7 days to remove bandages as well as to assess your scars and healing. Recovery continues for a few weeks until the swelling has significantly subsided. Most patients resume normal activities such as work, driving, and showering within the first 10 to 15 days.

Potential Risks & Complications

Although unlikely, all surgical procedures pose potential health risks. During the pre-operative consultation, Dr Rizis will go over all possible risks and complications as well as pertinent procedure information.
